Descendants of Unknown McCurdy

Generation No. 1

1.  UNKNOWN1 MCCURDY was born Abt. 1750, and died Unknown.

Notes for UNKNOWN MCCURDY:
Found a Henry in a muster roll of 1779 96 district

Theory only as to relationship of children.

Could Nancy McCurdy, wife of J. Bowen be his sister, or wife of William Henry McCurdy?

Anna is married a Sunday, Thomas brother to Barsheba. I believe this may be a niece or daughter  of  Nancy McCurdy, and another child of William Henry, and a niece of Elijah.

Elizabeth Cobb in 1860 is probably a sister to Anna, and possibly daughter of William Henry.

Children of UNKNOWN MCCURDY are:
2.i.ELIJAH M.2 MCCURDY, b. 1793, south carolina; d. 1877, Century, FL.
3.ii.WILLIAM HENRY MCCURDY, b. Bet. 1786 - 1789; d. Bef. 1850.
4.iii.NANCY MCCURDY, b. 1800, SC; d. 05 Aug 1875, fl or TX.

ARCHIBALD MCCURDY, b. Abt. 1800, North Carolina; d. Aft. 1850, Dallas County, AL.

Notes for ARCHIBALD MCCURDY:
NOT A SIBLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but coincedentally shows up in same area same time as William H., comes from Georgia....
Archibald starts land in 1826-1852
1837 in Sumter...Is he a cousin??????

Generation No. 2

2.  ELIJAH M.2 MCCURDY (UNKNOWN1) was born 1793 in south carolina, and died 1877 in Century, FL.  He married (1) MATHIE BOWEN Mar 1819 in Escambia County, Florida, daughter of UNKNOWN BOWEN.  She was born Abt. 1800, and died Unknown.  He married (2) BARBARA SUNDAY 18 Sep 1831 in Century, FL, daughter of JOHN SUNDAY and BARSHEBA COLLINS.  She was born Bet. 1804 - 1810 in Georgia, and died Unknown in Century, FL.

Notes for ELIJAH M. MCCURDY:
Per Pension record 1818, December 5th, Elijah was 26 years old {would have him born 1896 or 1897, not 1893}, and he was born in Chester in South Carolina. He was 5 feet 10 inches, had dark hair and blue eyes. Per WPA transcription of enlistment record, he was 21 when he enlisted, he was born in Abbeville, SC and enlisted either Nov. 22, or Dec. 6th.

Note ... This is not the Elijah McCurdy in Alabama, son of Elijah McCurdy. Possibly his cousin.

Had children with first wife, was still married when he married Barsheba who was 13 years old. He was Barsheba's legal guardian, and had gotten her pregnant, and so he changed her name when they were married to Sundike, and married in Pensacola. Some researchers have a marriage to Sarah "Barbary" Stevens also in Escambia, and three of the children by her, I believe this was again a way to avoid trouble over Basheba's age.

According to notes by my Aunt, they lived across the river and never had anything to do with the first family again. NOT TRUE.

Notes for BARBARA SUNDAY:
Name on marriage certificate different. Per my Aunt, this is due to the fact that Barsheba was Elijah's guardian and was underage. She was pregnant, and to avoid trouble, her last name is different on her marriage certificate. The same last name was used by her sister Charlotte in her marriage to Pink Owens, I believe Charlotte was also underage.Rumored to be part indian, most likely would be Creek or Cherokee. A researcher said she thought some Sunday's did make it up to Oklahoma, but I don't recall if any registered, and haven't researched it. Married under last name Sundike.

By the census of 1820 she would have bee 10-16, being born 1804-1810. John Had no daughters under 10 in 1820

Children are purely speculative, but as William and Elijah are the only male McCurdy's and the children aren't Elijah's this is reasonable assumption. LDS file lists John McCurdy of SC, with a William Henry and a Nancy same age. This John is brother to the Elijah, father of the other Elijah born 1798. Is this a lead?
